An exceptional quality landscape canvas signed by Wing Commander Tom Neil – DFC & Bar, AFC, AE. The image was taken at the Duxford Battle of Britain 75th Anniversary show on the 19th September 2015 where 15 Spitfires and 2 Seafires formed a Big Wing flypast in tribute to the ‘Few’.
The image title was inspired by something Geoffrey Wellum once said after witnessing a similar commemorative flypast – ‘I don’t consider myself an emotional person but, watching those spitfires getting airborne, I felt a lump in my throat and I had to fight for self control because their cockpits were full of ghosts; old friends. So they were friendly ghosts.’
